Community Projects

Cascade STEAM Community Projects are organized collaborative efforts for community impact and social good. We welcome all people of all ages to participate. Organization and discussion occurs at our Community Group meetings and on our Community Hub. See our Meetup Page for scheduled events.

Artificial Intelligence Workshops

Join the Cascade STEAM Artificial Intelligence Community Group as we meet for hands-on learning in our Artificial Intelligence Workshops events. We’ve partnered with Anthropric with their Claude Code Workshop for Builders platform to collaborate on our own goals of organizing shared learning experiences and progressing our community work with a focus on education and lifelong learning.

Breach

Breach is a Community Project featuring a cybersecurity shared learning experience in a game of Capture the Flag! In a cooperative, low-stress format designed for all skill levels, participants share strategies for attacking and defending as a learning exercise, evolving each round with more difficult challenges. Launching March 29, 2026.

Collaborative Internship

Collaborative Internship is an extension of Service Corps - our technology training and community service program for social good - by partnering with local businesses and nonprofits to give students hands-on, real-world experience while simplifying the internship process for employers.

Consulting

Consulting is now available from Cascade STEAM - leveraging our team’s extensive combined experience collaborating with employer, nonprofit, education, and local government partners in service of their business, technology, and community engagement goals.

Digital Navigators

FREE Community Tech Support is available from Cascade STEAM via our Digital Navigators Program. Assistance is offered to the public from technology students and industry professionals through scheduled onsite events at social welfare and support organizations to help resolve basic computing challenges completely free of charge.

Educational Robotics

Educational Robotics is a collaboration of the Cascade STEAM Engineering Community Group and Bellingham Public Schools to support their VEX Robotics Program. With VEX Robotics, hundreds of students throughout the district participate in a range of casual to globally-competitive robotics development, including mechanical engineering, fabrication, assembly, software development, technical writing, and project management. We help students learn robotics and host local robotics events.

Hack Night

Join Cascade STEAM for Hack Night on Saturdays from 4pm–“Late” at the Bellingham Makerspace for an open, collaborative session of shared learning! Bring your projects, homework, questions, and ideas and let’s do them together.

HelpDesk

Community Tech Support is available from Cascade STEAM via our HelpDesk Program. Assistance is offered to the public from volunteer technology professionals and students by suggested donation.

LinuxFest Northwest Conference

LinuxFest Northwest is an annual, free-to-attend F/LOSS conference featuring presentations and exhibits on free/libre and open source topics, as well as Linux distributions & applications, licensing, InfoSec, DevOps, AI/ML, creative software, hardware, and privacy; something for everyone from the novice to the professional! LinuxFest Northwest 2026 will be held April 24–26, 2026 in Bellingham, WA at Bellingham Technical College.

Mentorship

Mentorship connects community members interested in STEAM in either a “Traditional Mentorship” or “Peer Mentorship” arrangement, providing a support structure for a positive mentorship experience for all.

Reuse

Reuse is an extension of Service Corps to refurbish donated technology equipment for a new, productive use and purpose in our community, and provide students valuable hands-on experience with technology.

Service Corps

Cascade STEAM Service Corps is a technology training program for social good. Each quarter, student interns and volunteers work closely with technology professionals to help develop and maintain the systems that we utilize for our organization management and community programs, including Digital Navigators and HelpDesk.

Stormwater Monitoring

The Citizen Science Community Group helps in organizing support for RE Sources and their Stormwater Monitoring Project to help protect Bellingham Bay. Organizers are working to create science, technology, and administrative projects and subprojects for community members to easily plug into and contribute.
